Over 30 years ago Dob began his career as an electrician before moving into the building envelope industry, specialising in commercial roofing and cladding. Dob quickly established himself as a trusted professional, managing labour gangs and coordinating with design teams on major projects for companies like Robert McAlpine and BACO.
Dob and his labour gangs sub contracted on high-profile buildings such as the media centre for the 2012 Olympic Games, Edinburgh and Brighton Hospitals (handling defect rectifications), Bournemouth Student Accommodation Blocks, Portsmouth Hospital, Millennium Point, The Bullring Shopping Centre, and the development of cladding systems for Birmingham New Street Station. He also contributed to cutting-edge testing at the Vinci Technology Centre, building and testing building envelope systems to destruction for companies like Ruukki and Praters.
After years of managing large-scale projects across the country, Dob wanted to work closer to home to spend more time with his family and naturally went into Project Manager roles for Commercial and Industrial Roofing and Cladding companies. It was during this time he noticed significant inefficiencies when it came to hiring cherry pickers: frequent delays in delivery and collection of the machines stretched short jobs into days, and machinery often sat idle due to rigid hire terms or the lack of skilled operatives. This obviously meant time and money was wasted unnecessarily
Dob also identified a shortage of skilled MEWP operators locally, creating further challenges for both residential and commercial clients. Recognising these issues, he founded Boomdob to provide a better way.
